Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Day is a time where we gather to remember all of the people who died in war. Some of the wars include World War Two, The Falklands War, The Gulf War and conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. On this day there are normally ceremonies at local war memorials all across the country and abroad. The royal family and top politicians gather at The Cenotaph in Whitehall, London for one of the largest services. The team at Viner’s on the Hill will be paying our respects in joining in with the ceremonies and the 2 Minute silence.

If you are local to Kings Hill you might have passed a statue near our shop. This memorial statue honours the military and civilian personnel who were based at Kings Hill over the years. It comprises a life size bronze sculpture of a running airman surrounded by four vertical granite panels depicting the history of the airfield here at king’s hill.

St Gabriel’s, Kings Hill will be doing a Remembrance Day service to mark the day by laying wreaths at the running air man in kings hill. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 measures they will not be holding a gathering. Alternatively, they will be holding the event online on Facebook and YouTube from 10.45am. So please join in and remember this special day and event along with our great community here at Kings Hill. Please bring a poppy between 11am-4pm and place it into the boxes that will be provided as a mark of your respect.

We are setting up our shop window displays to highlight the occasion. A local artist has provided us with beautiful paintings which will be on display in the windows for all to see. Please come along to the shop front and have a look at our displays. Due to new regulations we can only accept click and collect orders in our shop. Please place your orders online or on the phone and collect in store. Thank you.
